Research and publications
Knowledge Hub shapes our research profile: as well as capturing our design and construction intelligence for use on future projects, it also guides our publications output which cover a variety of topics, from estate regeneration, post-occupancy evaluation and local solutions to the housing crisis and suburban densification. Recent projects include:
- In partnership with the University of Reading, we are developing a unique toolkit to quantify POE data in housing, allowing social value outcomes to be incorporated into buildings at the design stage
- In October 2023, with The Good Homes Alliance and British Blind and Shutter Association (BBSA) we launched a new design guide on shading for housing, seeking to embed a new culture – among building makers of all stripes – in which shading is central to a building’s design and built-in from the start.
- In response to emerging housing guidance in London, in 2023 we published the first ever contemporary survey of deck access housing in the UK - The Deck Access Housing Design Guide (Routledge) – featuring UK and continental European exemplars of this dual-aspect-friendly housing type
- Also in 2023, in March, we launched ‘What is the future of high-rise housing?’ – our book centred on the future viability of building tall in London.
- In December 2022 we published Building for 2050, the UK Government’s evidenced-based report on the drivers and barriers involved in the large-scale construction and take-up of low cost, low carbon housing
- And, addressing the changing priorities in Estate Regeneration, in October 2022 we, together with PRP, Levitt Bernstein and HTA, published Altered Estates II
