This striking new care centre, spanning over 3 acres, will be located within the northern edge of woodland of Mindenhurst, a new neighbourhood in Deepcut, Surrey, and the former Ministry of Defence (MoD) Princess Royal Barracks.

The care centre will provide high quality specialised, round-the-clock care for older people, including those living with dementia, as well as individuals who have suffered physical trauma and require post-operative convalescent care.

Nestled amongst pine trees, the proposal comprises four residential wings, connected by two glazed communal pavilions and accessed via a central barn. These wings, or ‘households’, are arranged around three open-sided courtyard gardens, which are accessible via communal spaces and private terraces and offer views out to the surrounding landscape. In total, the new development provides 70 care bedrooms and 20 post-operative care suites. It also plays host to a number of amenities including a gym, hydro-pool, cinema, salon, and bistro.

Centrally located staff and service areas ensure the building works efficiently and reduces travel time for staff, which can be critical in a building of this nature. The central barn, containing the entrance and communal living areas for all residents, serves as a public face for the building, while a north-south ‘cloister’ around the western courtyard connects all the living spaces with the courtyards.

Set to open in 2027, the care centre will be surrounded by a range of new facilities as part of the masterplan for Mindenhurst, being delivered by Skanska, that includes 1,200 new homes, a new primary school, nursery, sports pitches and a village pub.
