Post Occupancy Evaluation

Post Occupancy Evaluation (POE) is vital for continuous understanding of building performance and resident perspective and to obtain feedback to inform our work.

The latest Affordable Housing Programme (AHP) 21-26 includes the commitment to carry out POE, which has the potential to become a contractual requirement for all delivery partners.

PTE has been carrying out POE services for clients for many years with a focus on assessing the performance of buildings after they have been completed and occupied. The evaluations gather feedback from residents and stakeholders to improve the design, construction and management of future projects. Here are some key aspects of PTE's POE services:

  1. Feedback mechanisms: PTE conducts surveys, interviews, and environmental monitoring to gather insights from residents about their living experience and the performance of the buildings.
  2. Continuous improvement: The findings from POE are used to refine design and specification processes for future projects. PTE emphasises learning from completed projects to enhance the quality of new developments.
  3. Collaboration with residents: PTE engages with residents through various methods, including filmed interviews and questionnaires, to understand their satisfaction and identify areas for improvement.
  4. Performance benchmarking: PTE employs a Building Performance Appraisal (BPA) as part of their Project Quality Management Plan, which includes a post-occupancy survey conducted a year after completion to assess how well the buildings meet their intended performance standards.
  5. Sustainability focus: PTE's POE services also include monitoring environmental performance, ensuring that the buildings meet sustainability targets and contribute positively to the residents' quality of life.
  6. Happy Homes Toolkit: PTE’s innovative Happy Homes Toolkit measures the social value of homes, through surveys with residents of completed projects, measuring the impact of building design on quality of life and well-being. We provide this as a unique additional service on projects to demonstrate the positive social and environmental impact of well-designed homes.

These services are integral to PTE's commitment to delivering high-quality, sustainable housing that meet the needs of residents and communities while aligning with clients' aspirations. Ultimately, they aim to enhance building and environmental performance, as well as to deepen the understanding and impact of social value in design - improving quality of life, health, and longevity.
